The Present PROGRESSIVE Tense (Şimdiki Zaman)

The present progressive tense is used to express the actions happening now.
(Şimdiki zaman,konuşma esnasındaki eylemleri ifade etmek için kullanılmaktadır.)

Examples:

I am working in the office right now. (Şu anda ofiste çalışıyorum.)

I am eating my lunch now. (Şu anda öğle yemeğimi yiyorum.)

Sue is listening to the radio. (Sue müzik dinliyor.)

I am working in the library right now.

Lily is working in the library right now.

You are working in the library right now.

Action is right now. ( Eylem şu anda)

In the present continuous tense, time adverbs such as now, at the moment, rightnow, still, at present etc.

(Bu zamanda; now, at the moment, right now, still, at present zaman zarfları kullanılmaktadır.)

Spelling of –ing

The basic rule: main verb takes –ing suffix.

(Temel kural: Fiile “–ing” eki eklenir.)

listen → listening play → playing

read → reading work → working

1) If a verb ends in a consonant + a vowel + a consonant, the last consonant is doubled.

(Eğer fiil, sessiz harf + sesli harf + sessiz harf şeklindeyse, son harf ikilenir.)

stop → stopping run → running

swim → swimming win → winning

shop → shopping get →getting

sit →sitting

2) If stress is not on the last syllable of a verb, this rule is invalid.
(Eğer vurgu fiilin son hecesinde değilse, bu kural geçerli değildir.)

open → opening

3) If a verb ends in a vowel + a consonant + -e, -e sound is omitted.

(Eğer fiil, sesli harf + sessiz harf + -e ile bitiyorsa, kelimenin sonundaki “-e” sesi düşer.)

dance → dancing shine → shining

write → writing live → living

come → coming

4) If the verb ends with –ie sounds, -ie sounds are omited and –y sound is added.

(Eğer fiil –ie sesleriyle bitiyorsa, -ie sesleri yerine –y sesi gelir.)

lie → lying

die → dying

Present Continuous Tense: Affirmative (Olumlu Cümle)

She is eating her lunch. (O, öğle yemeğini yiyor.)

He’s watching television. ( O, televizyon izliyor.)

I am reading a book. (Bir kitap okuyorum.)

David is cleaning his car. (David arabasını temizliyor.)

We’re playing a computer game. (Bilgisayar oyunu oynuyoruz.)

Present Continuous Tense: Negative ( Olumsuz Cümle)

She is not studying. She is sleeping. (O ders çalışmıyor, uyuyor.)

David isn’t walking. He is driving a car. (David yürümüyor. O araba kullanıyor.)

Mike isn’t doing his homework at the moment. (Mark şu anda ödevini yapmıyor.)

Joe isn’t sleeping now. ( Joe şimdi uyumuyor.)

They aren’t listening to the teacher. (Onlar, öğretmeni dinlemiyorlar.)

Contractions in Negatives (Olumsuzlarda Kısaltma)

There are two ways of contraction in negative sentence in the present continuous tense.

(Present Continuous Tense’te olumsuz cümlede iki şekilde kısaltma söz konusudur.)

Example:

She isn’t working. (O, çalışmıyor.)
She’s not working. (O, çalışmıyor.)

Present Continuous Tense: Questions (Sorular)

Short answers (Kısa Cevaplar)

Is Anchel working on a project? >> Yes, she is.

(Anchel bir proje üzerinde mi çalışıyor?)

Is James feeding the dog? >> Yes, he is.

(James köpeği besliyor mu?)

Are you watching TV? >> Yes, I am. / No, I am not

(Televizyon izliyor musun?)

Is it snowing now? >> No, it isn’t.

(Şimdi kar yağıyor mu?)

Is he playing football? >> No, he isn’t

(Futbol oynuyor mu?)

Is the baby crying? >> No, she isn’t

(Bebek ağlıyor mu?)

Wh- Questions

Where are they studying? (Onlar nerde ders çalışıyor?)
Why are they washing the car? (Onlar neden arabayı yıkıyorlar?)
Why is he learning English? (Neden ingilizce öğreniyor?)
When are we leaving home? (Evden ne zaman çıkıyoruz?)
